Dr. Umaru Abdul Mutallab, a prominent business leader, banker, chartered and certified accountant, with many years of experience in development, commercial, and merchant banking, is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria.
Dr. Mutallab, one of Nigeria’s most respected bankers, was former Minister for Economic Development in 1975 and of Cooperatives and Supplies in 1976. He served as a member of Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council from 1975 to 1978. He was also former chairman of First Bank of Nigeria as well as Jaiz Bank International PLC, and served as Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the United Bank for Africa.
His extensive experience of serving on the Board of Directors of several companies such as Nigeria Agip Oil, Arewa Textile Limited, Nigerian Communications Commission and other organizations will be invaluable to IHVN, a local organization mitigating the spread of HIV and other infectious diseases.
Alh. Mutallab, holds the title of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), one of the highest honors in Nigeria.
He is a graduate of South-West London College, Achimota College, Accra and Barewa College, Zaria. He was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Benue State University, Makurdi.
